Finding someone with whom you want to start a close relationship is difficult, but making the relationship long-lasting may be a lot more difficult. There are no conflict-free relationships. The way in which we manage these conflicts will determine our personalities. Some marriages will endure harder challenges and this causes them to build up a relationship anew or it forces them apart. Then there are the families that deal with large conflicts that occur due to kids becoming teenagers. Regardless of the cause, conflict is inevitable and we all have to deal with it sooner or later. And to save the relationship we should learn to solve conflict situations and work on the relationship using diverse tactics. Evolutionary researchers examined "mate retention strategies" in American women and men and found these strategies include being excessively watchful and threatening violence. Different gender strategies to keep their marriages intact were discovered. To evaluate qualities valued in partners and how they save relationships, researchers of the University of Texas conducted a survey of 214 married people. Men, more than ladies, admitted that they victimized their social status and financial success as a strategy to arouse interest in them, said the psychologists. Men also reported to keep their spouses interested by promising changes and threatening sexual betrayal. Women were also more likely than men to work on their physical appearance, thereby keeping husbands interested. As far as marital infidelity goes, it was found out that if a husband suspected that his wife was unfaithful, he would attempt to keep his wife from public activities, threaten punishment and criticize other men. It is surprising, ladies who suspected their husbands of infidelity did not work on the marriage any harder than those without suspicions. Unfortunately, some male strategies included some minor forms of physical abuse of wives, reported the authors. For instance, in an earlier survey, 72% of women requiring medical aid reported that their husbands limited their contact with family members and friends, insisted on knowing the women's whereabouts and verbally insulted women.
